I HAVE THE ROOTS
Beauty, beauty, beauty… What does a woman have to do to be considered beautiful and feminine? This multidisciplinary solo performance is based on the pressures and responsibilities on women who are exposed to these concepts.
The performance consists of the combination of video, sound collage and movement. In the video, the artist tries to untangle her hair, which has been tangled for months. A contrast is established with the fact that there are millions of content on social media, such as beauty secrets for women and suggestions on how to be a "proper" woman, and the artist sharing an unmentioned real life situation.
The performance was held at Club SAW in Ottawa within the scope of Turkish Roots, Canadian Branches Exhibition opening on October 24, 2023. In the remaining days of the exhibition, it was exhibited in the form an installation, without an artist.
