EPHEMERAL PLEASURES

A series of photographs, mixed media featuring my hands adorned with gloves, exploring the intricate and often overlooked narratives and the vulnerable moments concealed within the touch of our hands.

Ephemeral Pleasures, an exploration of the intricate and often overlooked narratives and the vulnerable moments concealed within the touch of our hands. In this series hands take center stage, serving as both subject and storyteller. The photographs feature my own hands captured through the lens of a scanner, adorned with gloves of varying hues. These gloves, while adding a layer of anonymity, symbolize the masks we do to obscure the raw truths and complexities of our actions.

At the core of this exploration lies an acknowledgment of the pivotal role hands play in shaping our daily existence. Yet, rather than celebrating their conventional utility, my focus gravitates towards the often disregarded facets of our interactions – the moments tinged with guilt, embarrassment, or discomfort. These fleeting instances, mere blips in time, possess a paradoxical potency, capable of imparting lasting impressions or profound pleasures. Central to this narrative is the abrupt decision-making process that characterizes human behavior. It is in these impulsive acts, executed in mere seconds, that the essence of our humanity is laid bare. Whether our choices evoke admiration or condemnation, they serve as poignant reminders of our capacity for both virtue and vice.

Gloves emerge as potent symbols, embodying the veil of anonymity we often seek to shroud our actions. By donning these garments, we relinquish accountability, obscuring the true identity of our hands and, by extension, ourselves. This act of masking serves as a testament to our innate inclination to evade culpability, to disown the consequences of our actions. Yet, beneath the veneer of anonymity lies a profound paradox – the very act of concealment imbues our hands with a universal quality, stripping them of individuality and imbuing them with a collective anonymity. In this way, gloves become conduits for a shared experience, transforming our most intimate appendages into vessels for communal reflection.
